The Power of a Praying Wife Chapter 24: His Talk

This week we are focusing on our words.

I don't want to be remembered as a person who was all talk and no action.

Ecclesiastes 5:3 "A dream comes through much activity, and a fool's voice is known by his many words."

One saying I repeat often is, "Actions speak louder than words!"   We want to be sure that the words we say can be seen in our own life.  I want my kids to be proud of their parents and not be parents that say, "Do as I say, not as I do."  If we want something to get done we need to choose to do it...not just talk about getting it done for years and years.

If you've read my blog for awhile now you know how I feel about people's words.  Words are very powerful and they can build people up or tear people down.  They can bring life or bring death.  You can encourage someone or have them walk away in despair.  This week I want to pray for John and I that our words edify, honor, bless, build up, encourage, and empower all the people around us.

Ephesians 4:29 "Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers."

I want my words to be seasoned with grace!

Matthew 12:36 "For every idle word men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment."

We all will be held accountable for the words we speak!

Psalm 34: 12, 13 "Who is the man who desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good?  Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit."
Watching what we say and controlling our tongue is no easy task, but when we ask for God's help and make a sincere effort to speak what is right God does bless us!

Ecclesiastes 10:12 "The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool shall swallow him up."

A wise and righteous person can control their mouth, because they are guided by the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 15:18 "Those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man."

Our words are in direct relationship to what is in our heart.  If we are not right with God, if we are not led by the Spirit, foolish and wicked words pour forth!

  1. Hi Kristi, I loved your comments on "words." I wish I could always follow these suggestions. It is so hard to control our tongue, isn't it?
You inspired me, I will try even harder with your thoughts and those bible verses in mind. Clare
