The Power of a Praying Wife: Week 7

John and I celebrating our Anniversary in Cape May (I was 4 mos. pregnant)
Chapter 5: His Temptations

It is a great thing to pray for our husbands.  We know they are faced with temptations daily, and we can pray that God protects them and guards them against such things.  Now that John works in NYC he has shared with me that  p*rnography is everywhere.  It's on the billboards as he walks to his office, it's on the newstands as he buys his paper, it's in the subways, the trains, the buses...everywhere.  My prayer for him has always been that he can stay focused on the job at hand and avoid such filthy material.  The media sure knows how to tempt a man, doesn't it.  Because our husbands are much more visual than we are, p*rnography can be a huge tempation.  Thank goodness for the Holy Spirit and the power of prayer.

John has also shared that in the office the other men talk very negatively about women.  He assumes that not everyone is faithful to their wife.  How sad!  My prayer for him is that when those negative conversations come up, the other men will see that he is not offering any comments and ask him why.  John already told me that they tease him a bit about marrying his high school sweetheart and living happily and going to church.  He's used to that.  My new prayer is that he can start to share more and more of his own testimony with the guys, and that they see his authenticity.  My ultimate prayer is that they see Christ in him.

Proverbs 27:20 says "The eyes of a man are never satisfied."  This means that temptation is always a possibility and we really need to be covering our husbands and marriages in prayer.  We know that God does not tempt us.  Temptation, sadly, comes from our own sinful hearts and desires.

James 1:12 "Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him."

God always provides a way out of temptation.  Isn't that a great promise to know and count on?  We can pray that when our husbands are tempted throughout the day that they flee from sin and run in the opposite direction of temptation.  I think of how Joseph ran away from Potiphar's wife as she tried to s*duce him to sleep with her.  He didn't wait around and toy with the idea, he ran!!!

John made me laugh because he said sometimes when he's walking to the office he looks right down at his feet and walks quickly.  He doesn't want to be sucked into the evilness of our media and society.  And what's with all the yucky billboards and magazines?  Put clothes on people! (sorry I had to get that out, LOL)

Stormie O'Martin ended the chapter by saying the best time to pray for all of these things is before they happen.  So, please pray for your husband's temptations today.  Pray that he sees the way out.  Pray he avoids it at all costs.  Pray he is watchful to avoid the pits and traps that Satan would love for him to fall in.  We've all been blessed with wonderful, godly husbands, who adore us, but they are human.  Pray for your husband today.

*Pray for strength to resist temptation
*Stamp bad thoughts out of their minds and hearts
*Lead him not to temptation but deliver him from evil
*Make him strong where he is weak
*Pray for a wall of protection around him

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation, will also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Love Dare #17:

Determine to guard your mate's secrets (unless they are dangerous to them or to you) and to pray for them.  Talk with your spouse, and resolve to demonstrate love in spite of these issues.  Really listen to them as they share personal thoughts and struggles with you.  Make them feel safe.

  1. I've been praying for Josh every day since we got married, and this is one thing I pray about a lot! There is so much crap everywhere that our husbands have to deal with- between the suggestive imagery all around us and the competitive nature of other men. My prayer for him has always been that he will fix his eyes on Christ and not be swayed from that path.
